Three Rivers Road

Gulfport, MS

Three Rivers Road,

Ph. I & II

about this project

Due to increased commercial and population growth in the North Gulfport / Seaway Industrial area, the City of Gulfport needed to widen Three Rivers Road to help alleviate congestion. Brown, Mitchell and Alexander, or Brown, Mitchell & Alexander, Inc. (BMA) was selected because of our knowledge of the area and experience with the LPA funding process.

Phase I of this project included road and bridge widening, curb and gutter, sub-surface drainage, intersection improvements at Three Rivers and Creosote Roads including a traffic signal upgrade, and multiple rail crossings.

Phase II of the project included the addition of a traffic roundabout at the intersection of Airport Road and Three Rivers Road and widening of Creosote Road from Hwy 49 to Three Rivers Road. Throughout the improvements project, BMA coordinated with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to ensure that all utilities were adjusted as needed as well as provided coordination with Kansas City Southern Railroad for improvements at the rail crossings. The project was funded with MDOT / FHWA funds and completed in 2015 with a total cost of approximately $7 million.
